Check out the "Data Compression Book". It has code on a disk for
Huffman and arithmetic compression. If you want the ISBN number I
can look it up when I get home from work.

Do a web search on IEEE 754 floating point standard. I've got a
preliminary paper (before it became a standard, shows how old I am :-)
which describes NAN's and how to do gentle underflow. Most data books on
floating point DSP's also have a good description of how bits are stored
in IEEE float because they convert from their internal format to IEEE.

Patience, persistence, truth,
Dr. mike
