I've been reading for a while here... correct me if I'm wrong, but
if the smtp server encrypts the body of the message, but not the routing
information, the pop server receiving the mail on the other end would have
to decipher it to make it transparent to the user..
if the routing information is encrypted, all the routers have to be able
to decrypt it and encrypt it again, which is close to impossible to
impliment.
Either way, it might make more sense to leave the encryption to the client
or some other external third party software that can be implimented
easily..
such as pgp! :-)

Personally, I think all the programming efforts should go towards the
secure
chat program that can be used directly between users on any network (such
as
the internet) by supplying an ip address.. This would be an invaluable
tool
that I would even pay for if it was good quality, excellent security, and
stable in most conditions.. (am I asking too much? hehe)
