Triple DES "standard"?

Is there a "standard" for Triple DES? I don't see anything in the various
FIPS document (go ahead, correct me...) and in the IPsec world
we keep referencing the Tuchman 1979 article where he postulated the use
of two-key triple DES. Is there a FIPS document or something?
Is this really just tradition, as quantified by Schneier, etc.?
