There are approximately 18000 methods for doing digital signatures using
ECC. Nyberg Rueppel is probably the best, but ....

If you take patents seriously use ECDSA. If you do not take take them
seriously, write your code so it does not depend on any of the special
qualities of the patented material, so that it costs less to change the
method than it costs for a lawyer to write you a letter.

If they know it costs less to change the method than to write you the
letter, you will not receive the letter.
