I seem to remember that not long ago someone mentioned a paper on certain
statistical properties of hashing functions like SHA-1; specifically, that
some bits of SHA-1 message digests are in a sense harder to predict than
others.

Could anyone please provide a reference to that paper? Thanks a lot, and
