CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous anoncvs gnome org:/cvs/gnome cvs login
(password is "just hit enter" IIRC, try "anonymous" otherwise)
CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous anoncvs gnome org:/cvs/gnome cvs co dia

from that point on you should be able to track the updates with a simple
	cvs -z3 up -Pd

All of this assumes that anoncvs.gnome.org is not down currently.
