On this talk of grafting encryption into the linux ext2fs... are you
people aware of the loop-back filesystem mechanism, and the encryption
and steganography facilities available using this mechanism as a hook?

aka it's already been done, unless those discussing it see some
advantage to adding the same functionality via different hooks.

Take a look on cypherpunks archives at berkeley under ian goldberg, or
probably on replay.com somewhere also.

Loopback is a driver which allows you to view a file as a block
device; then you can mount ext2 (or any other filesystems) within
files. Loopback also provides a way to hook in filtering functions on
a per block basis.
