I was looking through Schnier today for a MAC that could be used in
a stream situations where the keying material wasn't known until sometime
after the beginning of the stream.
It appears that some of the variations of MD5 would do the trick,
however, it appears that these are the variations that lead up to HMAC-MD5.
My best idea is to use a one-way hash and then encrypt the result. That
seems to fit my requirements well, since it allows my hardware to do the
one-way hash, and have the software do the single block encrypt operation.

Does anyone have any other references?
